William J. Matthews

William J. Matthews, 88 years old of Weymouth and of Wellfleet, MA passed away on November 15. He was the beloved husband of E. Jane Matthews with whom he shared 65 years of Marriage.

Born in East Orange, New Jersey, in 1937 to Richard E. and Mary E. Matthews, Bill later moved with his family to Weymouth, where he graduated in 1955.

Father of Scott and his wife, Cheryl Matthews of Shoreham, VT, James Matthews of Chesapeake, VA, and Robert and his wife Beth Matthews of Groveland, MA. He was the proud Grandad of Seth William, Heidi Marie, Samantha Jane and Sydney Joan and Great Grandad of Emerson and Hadley Petit.

Bill was the brother of Judith Ecelecu of Tyler, TX, Nancy Matthews of Denver, CO and the late John Matthews.

Bill worked at the Quincy Naval Shipyard while attending Lincoln Institute at The Northeastern University. He later continued his engineering career at Charles T. Main in the Hydroelectric Division.

Bill was an active member of Old South Union Church and the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge. He also valued the time he spent supporting Troop 8 Boy Scouts and Weymouth Youth Hockey alongside his sons.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Bill on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Family and friends will gather in the funeral home for a Funeral Service in honor of Bill's life and legacy at 11am on Saturday morning November 22, 2025. in the funeral home. If attending, please arrive at 10:45am for a prompt service at 11am.
