William Edward Leary III

September 3, 1951 — January 5, 2024

Pembroke

William Edward Leary III "Ed", age 72, of Pembroke, passed away on January 5, 2024 after a courageous battle with a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Ed was born and raised in Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High School in 1969. He continued his education at Boston University, graduating with a degree in English. He worked many years as a Systems Analyst in the Greater Boston area.

One important job held by Ed early in his career was his work at Zayres where he met his soulmate Deb. Ed and Deb married in 1978. They started married life in Weymouth before deciding to settle in Hingham where they raised their loving family.

Ed had many interests and always had a fun fact readily available to share. While knowledgeable in all things science, history, or literature based, he would become an expert in any topic that piqued his curiosity. He had a love of music, classic rock being a favorite of his, listening to bands like the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. As an avid sports fan, Ed could often be found watching any Boston sports team, however, he had a particular love of the University of Alabama college football team. In addition to his love of professional sports, Ed was committed to being involved in all of his children’s activities. Many fond moments were shared during early morning hockey runs, Special Olympics training, school concerts and performances among various other events. Any interest of his children would quickly become an interest of his.

He was a man with a kind heart and loved animals, especially his own pets. Due to his loving nature, Ed was often convinced by his children to add more animals to his flock. Ed was a stoic man who would use his witty sense of humor to bring joy and happiness to all who had the pleasure to meet him.

Ed loved and lived for his family above all and was loved equally in return by them. His children always knew he would support them unconditionally. His devotion and fierce loyalty to his family was unparalleled. He will be greatly missed.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Leary (Domit), of Pembroke. He is also survived by his loving children, Courtney Carpenito and her husband Matthew of Marshfield, Caitlin Leary and her husband Cormac Marnell of Carver, Kelley Leary of Pembroke, Meghan Greaney and her husband Walter of Marshfield, Maggie Leary of Rockland, and William Leary IV, and his wife Jenelle of Georgia. Ed is predeceased by his daughter Molly Leary. Ed was also loved by his grandchildren, Ty Christianson, Julia Carpenito, Anna Carpenito, Rowan Marnell and Hazel Marnell. Ed was predeceased by his sister Ellen Leary Edelman and brother Jim Leary. Their children Erin, Ryan, Conor, Dillon Leary and Aiden Edelman held a special place in Ed's heart.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral Mass for Ed on Thursday January 11, 2024 at Saint Francis Xavier Parish, located at 234 Pleasant St. South Weymouth, MA at 11:30 AM.
