Obituary

WEYMOUTH – William J. Cicchese, Jr. (Willie) 86, passed away April 16, 2026 in Weymouth, after a long illness.

Born in Weymouth, he was the son of the late William J. Cicchese Sr. and Bridget Theresa (Moore). He was a lifelong resident of Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High School (Vocational/Carpentry) in 1957.

In 1959 he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country in the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1959 to 1961, followed by two years Army Reserve with the Army National Guard of Massachusetts. He was honorably discharged in March of 1963 earning the rank of Private First Class and awarded the Medal of Good Conduct. While raising his family he received an Associates Degree in Business from Newbury College on the G.I. Bill.

In 1965 he married the love of his life, Kathleen (Toal), and they settled down in South Weymouth where they raised three children and made their life, which always included large family gatherings with enormous amounts of homemade Italian food and laughter.

Willie joined Local 3 of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, of which he was a lifetime member. He was extremely proud of his work and was one of the “Best in the Business." Throughout his career, he worked on many notable local landmarks including 75 State Street in Boston, South Shore Hospital, Hingham High School, Old South Union Church and the current Weymouth Police Station, where, if you know his work, you can see his “mark." He and his family were most proud of his work on the Weymouth Korean War Memorial, for which he, his sons, brother and fellow “Brickies” laid down the brick and granite that make up the pathways at the memorial in Jackson Square.

Willie was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Kathleen Cicchese (Toal) as well as his parents, William and Bridget, his sister Cathleen and brother James and his longtime companion, Rita J. Bryant.  He is survived by his children William Cicchese III and wife Janine, James F. Cicchese and Maureen Cicchese Musseau, his sister Margaret Cicchese, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Cicchese. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jillian, Kaitlyn, Katharine and Owen as well as his great grandchildren Emily, Billy, Charlotte and Ayla.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Willie on Tuesday, April 21 from 4 to 7PM at C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant Street, Weymouth (Columbian Square). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home the following morning, Wednesday, April 22 at 9AM for Celebration of Life reflection prayer and to join the funeral procession to St. Francis Xavier Church for the Funeral Mass which will begin at 10AM. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth.
