Wayne J. Cleversey

December 19, 1938 — April 28, 2025

Plymouth, MA

Wayne J. Cleversey, born December 19, 1938, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at age 86, in Plymouth, MA. Wayne was born in Winthrop Hospital and raised in Revere and Lynn. He married his beloved wife Diane B. Cleversey (Ryan), on September 23, 1967, and settled in South Weymouth where they raised their two sons and lived for over 50 years

He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin J. Cleversey and Phyllis Cleversey (Corkum) of Pleasantville, Nova Scotia. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Diane B. Cleversey (Ryan); two sons, Scott J. Cleversey (Vangie Cleversey (Deane) and Keith W. Cleversey (Nazia Shah); his grandchildren, Harrison J. Cleversey, Reagan E. Cleversey, Lauren Smith, and CJ Smith; sister, Drenna Mahaney; many nieces and nephews; and an abundance of loving family from Massachusetts, California, and Nova Scotia.

Wayne attended The Lynn Vocational School studying mechanical drafting, graduating in 1956. He also attended Northeastern Evening School and four years at the General Electric Apprentice Program. He proudly and humbly served our Nation as a Navy Reservist out of South Weymouth Naval Air Station from Jan 1962 - Oct 1969. His career included Thompson Electric Welder Company, Raytheon, General Electric, and he retired from General Dynamics (>30yrs) after working in the Quincy Shipyard, Quonset Point RI, and Groton CT. His career continued and ended at Bird Johnson (Rolls Royce) Marine Division, Walpole. Though he took great pride in his career—a continuation of national service through Naval Engineering—he often spoke more fondly of summers spent working on family farms around Pleasantville, Nova Scotia for a dollar a day, and of trekking through snowy streets as a teenager with a shovel in hand.

In addition to the Navy adventures, he would join friends for skiing and hiking trips, loved canoeing and windsurfing, and led his family into all of the same, including nighttime hikes for sunrise breakfast at a summit, and floating down a river on a hand-built raft. He maintained a garden for many years, listening to Irish Hit Parade or country music while the boys played in the yard.

Wayne was a committed Christian who loved the Lord, and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Weymouth for many years. He faithfully served his church community through many roles, including assisting with outdoor work, teaching Sunday School, and serving as both deacon and treasurer. He carried forward a legacy rooted in faith, family, love, and a calling to serve others. That’s how he lived—fully, peacefully, and with quiet strength—guided by God.
