Virginia Zamora De Cordero

October 13, 1936 — April 21, 2025

South Weymouth, MA

Virginia Zamora Cordero of South Weymouth passed away peacefully on April 21st, 2025, at the age of 88. Virginia was born on October 13th, 1936, in Santo Domingo, Heredia, Costa Rica, where she was raised.

She met and married Victor Julio Cordero Sr. in Costa Rica before they moved to California in 1964, where they settled down to have their two children. Virginia worked as a visual merchandiser for JCPenney, where she brought her keen eye for detail and fashion design to her work until retiring after 26 years. In the two years before her illness, she volunteered as a recess monitor at her grandchildren's school.

Virginia was known for her servant’s heart, wonderful sense of humor, and love of practical jokes. Her favorite simple pleasures included grabbing an Italian sub and lounging at the beach, most often Nantasket. She was always ready to help with anything around the house and had a passion for ironing. Virginia never said no to helping in any way she could.

Virginia is survived by her son, Victor J. Cordero Jr., and his wife, Beth A., and her two granddaughters of South Weymouth. She is also survived by her siblings in Costa Rica: Leda Alpizar and her husband Jorge, Julieta Soto, and Jose Zamora; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Debra A. Cordero, and her sister, Julia Chanona.

There will be a private celebration of life for immediate friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Christian Church and School of Weymouth.
