Stephen LaneMarch 4, 1990 – June 24, 2026
Stephen Lane, 36, of Weymouth, MA, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was the beloved son of his mother, Susan McCarthy, and his late Father, Richard Lane; the adored Grandson of Kenyon Thompson and his late Grandmother, Carol Thompson; and brother to Emily McCarthy.
Born on March 4, 1990, Steve lived a modest life, but anyone who knew him understood that he had a personality that filled a room. He was known for his quick wit, playful teasing, and unmistakable sense of humor. Whether it was a perfectly timed one-liner, a sarcastic comment, or good-natured teasing, he had a way of bringing humor to everyday moments. Beneath that humor was a thoughtful, generous, and loyal person who cared deeply about the people in his life.
Steve loved the game of golf and enjoyed his time as a member of Pembroke Country Club. Some of his favorite memories were made on annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach with family and vacations shared with friends. One of his greatest treasures was his 1978 Firebird, a car he purchased because it had always been his father's dream to own one. The car served as a meaningful connection to his dad and brought him great pride and enjoyment.
Growing up, Steve could often be found swimming in his grandmother's pool with friends and cousins, playing video games for hours, playing cards, or reaching for a Yoo-hoo or a V8 juice. Those simple moments became some of the memories most cherished by the people who knew and loved him. He carried that same appreciation for life's simple pleasures into adulthood, finding happiness in time spent with family, friends, and the hobbies he enjoyed most.
We will remember Steve for his humor, loyalty, and resilience. He faced life's challenges with courage and determination while never losing the ability to make others laugh. His kindness, strength, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the laughter he shared will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Steve's memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at www.Dana-Farber.org.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported Steve throughout his courageous battle with cancer. Their compassion, dedication, and care brought comfort not only to Steve, but to all who loved him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for Stephen from 4-7pm on Monday, June 29, 2026 in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA.
