Sean Michael Maloney
June 2, 1954 – July 6, 2025
Sean Michael Maloney passed peacefully at home on July 6, 2025, following a courageous and faith-filled battle with stage four cancer. His beloved wife, Lisa (Viglas) Maloney, was by his side, just as she had been every step of the way. He was 71 years young, but his spirit was ageless - eternally full of life, light, and love.
Born in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, Sean was the cherished son of the late Gerald and Jane Maloney. He was the proud older brother to Colleen Maloney and her husband Peter Carleen, and uncle to their sons Andrew and Jacob. He was also the loving brother of Kerry Maloney and her late husband James Roche, and the devoted brother of his dear, late younger brother, Kevin Maloney. His beloved mother in-law Kathy Viglas of Port Orange, brother in-law Matt Viglas of Port Orange as well as Paul and Linda Viglas of Weymouth. His extended family runs deep and every single one of them meant the world to him. His family also included his "Parental Partner" Vicki Alberti, his ATG brothers, life-long best friends and his South Shore & Port Orange, FL bartenders who were like family to him.
To his children and grandchildren, Sean was not just a father and "Bampy" - he was a teacher of joy, a pillar of strength, and a living example of how to lead with heart and a positive mindset. He is survived by his son Corey Maloney of Middleboro and grandsons John and Joseph; his daughter Erin DiCarlo and her husband Tommy of Wilmington and their children Siobhan, Brielle, Lucia, and Vincent; and by Al and Stan Hawes of Portland, OR.
Sean spent over 30 years working at Alvin Hollis in Weymouth, where his warmth, humor, and integrity made him a friend to all. But his true life’s work was in service to others. Affectionately known as “Saint Sean” by many, he never met a stranger. Whether through heartfelt conversations, daily sunrise prayers for people he met, or tireless charitable efforts, Sean made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
He was a lifelong, passionate member of numerous fraternal, philanthropic and communal organizations including:
Sean championed causes that touched lives far and wide - from Mooseheart & Moosehaven, Magical Moon Farm , Joanna’s Place, to pediatric cancer research and agricultural education. His devotion to the James Underwood Crockett Agricultural Fund and his fraternity, Alpha Tau Gamma at UMass Amherst, spanned five decades and reflected his enduring love for agriculture and humanity.
His motto in life was simple but profound:
“Aspire to inspire before you expire.”
Sean had the rare gift of making you feel like the most important person in the room. Whether with a sincere word, a signature joke, or a lovingly delivered “dope slap” of wisdom, he lifted people up - and expected you to pass it on. His larger-than-life presence will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Sean asks that those who loved him “be relentless in your positivity - it changes the world.” In lieu of flowers, please honor his legacy by planting a tree in your yard, joining a benevolent organization or a donation to the James Underwood Crockett Fund in his name:
James Underwood Crockett Fund C/O Bank of America U.S. Trust 100 Westminster St. Providence, RI 02901
And in true Sean fashion, we end with the words he left on the hearts of thousands:
“Whooty Hoo… Sean Loves You. Bye for now!”
