Roger L. Miller II, age 76, of Abington passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023. Roger was raised and educated in South Boston. A short time after high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served with Force Recon in the Vietnam War from 1967-70.
Roger began his career as a patrolman for the Weymouth Police Department in 1977 where he served as Union President and retired in 1992. He married his beloved wife, Rita, in 1978. Roger and Rita settled in Abington after marriage to start their family. They created countless memories on their many family trips to Sebastian, FL and to New Hampshire with Roger's beloved granddaughters.
Roger was a proud Past Exalted Ruler of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks and a Trustee for the Weymouth Eagles. The laughter, friendship, and comradery he experienced in those establishments will not soon be forgotten.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Rita Miller (Buckley) of Abington, his son Roger L. Miller III and his wife Jaclyn of Abington, and his cherished granddaughters Abigail and Isabelle. Roger is also survived by his brother Stephen Miller and his wife Veronica of Hanover, his cousin Kenny Slattery and his wife Vivian of Quincy, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Roger on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Friday Morning at 8am for a Celebration of Life prior to the funeral mass which will take place at 9am in St. Bridget’s Church in Abington. Burial services will be private for Roger’s family in Bourne National Cemetery at a later date due to the availability of the cemetery on Friday. In lieu of flowers, Roger would want everyone to raise a Budweiser for him while tipping your favorite bartender.
