Robert Raymond Skidmore

February 5, 1945 — May 8, 2024

Weymouth

Robert Raymond Skidmore, age 79, of Weymouth, passed away on May 8, 2024. Bob was born in Quincy. He was raised in Weymouth and was a lifelong resident.  He joined the US Army in high school. After that he worked briefly at the Quincy shipyard before joining The Heat and Frost Insulators Union Local 6 Boston where he worked over 38 years before retiring in 2006.

Bob was as genuine as they come. He was known for his cavalier personality, strong presence, quick wit, and light hearted sense of humor. He had a strong yet patient demeanor that made him a comforting person in times of stress. He unapologetically did what he wanted to do in life. He never wore a winter coat and never was one to miss an opportunity for the perfect “dad joke”. He loved all things sports but most passionate about baseball. He enjoyed taking his children to many Red Sox games. The 2004 championship was a day he would never forget. In the earlier years of his adult life, he enjoyed bowling leagues and bingo nights with his wife Kay. He loved a good scratch ticket run, cooking, and playing cards and cribbage. He played in numerous adult softball leagues as well as semi pro football for Randolph and Weymouth. When his children became old enough for organized sports that became his favorite thing to do. For 15+ years his nights, weekends, and summers would be at ball fields and rinks all over the place. His strong yet patient way of teaching made him a great coach and popular with the kids.  In retirement he took the time to really enjoy his family and friends. He especially loved hanging out with his favorite dog Gus. He enjoyed Sunday Funday and summer cookouts at his daughters house, Thursday lunches with the union boys, and going to his grandchildren’s hockey, flag football, and soccer games as well as dance recitals. Most importantly he devoted his time to care for his wife Kay when she became ill.

Son to the lates William H. Skidmore and Charlotte Skidmore (Jason), natural son to the late Lucy Ellins Paine, and foster son to the late “aunt” Dot Carr.  Husband to the late Catherine “Kay” Skidmore (Leary). He is survived by his daughter, Diane Hawes (McIsaac) and her husband David of Weymouth, his sons, Robert L. Skidmore of Weymouth, Richard R. Skidmore and wife Sarah of Weymouth, and Timothy J. Skidmore and his longtime girlfriend Crystal Valle of Randolph. Father to the lates Francis McIsaac and  Nathan S. Skidmore. Brother to the lates Lilly Mae Rose, Ellen Faria, and Elizabeth "Liza" Skidmore. Also survived by sister Ruthie Curtin and brother William Skidmore. He is survived by his grandchildren James McIsaac and his girlfriend Kristin Learning, Matt Hawes, Makayla Hawes, Shealyn Skidmore, and Sadie Skidmore, his great granddaughter, Elaine “Lainey” McIsaac, and his granddog, Gus. Bob will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
