Norwell

Richard Francis Harding, long-time resident of Norwell, passed away last Sunday, October 16th, at the age of 76. He was surrounded by his loving wife Joan, his two daughters and his grandson.

Born in Boston, Dick was raised in Southie and later Quincy, Mass. A few short years after graduating from Sacred Heart High School, he and Joan met. Six years later, they wed in a lovely fall ceremony at the Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth, before building their home in Norwell. This month they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Dick worked as an electrician for 53 years and was a proud member of the Local 103 Union - with whom he helped build the wind turbine you can see today off 93 South by the union's sign in Dorchester.

His daughters fondly remember their numerous camping trips together in the 80s and early 90s. Once the car and trailer were all packed up, Dick would always say "On the road again!" before playing the famous Willie Nelson song to begin their trip.

Dick was also a big fan of Nascar races, loved watching the ships in Scituate Harbor, or seeing the latest construction at the old Hanover Mall location - often accompanied by his beloved grandson, William- or, simply parking his truck in the sun to soak up some warm rays.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Joan, his daughter Kristin (Harding) Costa and her husband Glenn of Venice, Florida, and his other daughter Michelle Harding and her son William of Manchester, NH. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Harding, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Shrewsbury, Mass, as well as his sister Nancy Berry and her husband Walter of Abington, Mass and many nieces, nephews, friends, and cherished grand-pets.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend his wake on Thursday, October 20th, from 4-7pm at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home 134 Pleasant Street, (Columbian Square), Weymouth, Mass, 02190.

The funeral service will take place Friday, October 21st, at 10am, followed by a burial service at Washington Street Cemetery in Norwell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund Clinic. https://www.jimmyfund.org/ways-to-give/
