Peter Furtado

Peter M. Furtado, age 58, of South Weymouth, passed away on December 20, 2025. He was born on August 26, 1967, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Dennis R. and Anne J. (Sullivan) Furtado. Peter was raised in North Quincy and was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1985. He later earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix.

Peter helped run his family’s business, Furtado Freight Lines, for fifteen years before beginning a successful career in Healthcare Quality Post-Market Surveillance of Medical Devices. During his career, he was employed at Haemonetics, Fresenius, and most recently Philips Healthcare, a role that took him traveling around the world. Peter was an avid, lifelong fan of thoroughbred horse racing and made it a cherished tradition to attend the races in Saratoga Springs every summer. Peter was also a self-taught historian. He was well read in many fields, but was an expert in the Roman empire.

Peter is survived by his beloved son, Thomas M. Furtado; his long-time partner, Theresa E. Clasby; his brothers, Dennis J. Furtado and Matthew R. Furtado; sisters-in-law Kimberly A. Furtado and Joanna M. Furtado; nieces Kaitlyn T. Fedele, Rachel A. Furtado, Abigail M. Furtado, and grandniece Therese R. Fedele; and the mother of his son, Kimberly A. Lydon. Peter is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous friends, and was a proud and devoted dog dad to Achilles.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration Of Life on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at 9:15 a.m. at C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant Street, South Weymouth, MA. It will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, South Weymouth, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
