Paul J. Tierney

December 30, 1939 — June 6, 2026

Haverhill, MA

Paul Joseph Tierney, age 86, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Paul was born on December 30, 1939, in Somerville, Massachusetts, and was the beloved son of the late Martin Leo Tierney and Esther Mary (Cahill Tierney) Larkin.

He was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1958. Shortly thereafter, Paul enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly and honorably served his country. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Caroline (Cox) Tierney. They were married on June 27, 1964, and shared nearly 62 devoted years together. Caroline was truly his soulmate and best friend.

Paul built a respected career as a skilled electrician after joining IBEW Local 103, where he trained and became licensed in his craft. He worked in the private sector before dedicating 25 years of service to the MBTA, where he was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and dependability. Beyond his electrical trade, Paul extended his talents to carpentry, plumbing, and general contracting. With his skill and sheer determination, Paul built his home in North Andover, Massachusetts, a ski house in New Hampshire, and a beach house in Florida. These homes were more than just buildings to Paul. They were built with love so that his children and grandchildren could spend time together and create lasting memories.

Paul had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and lived life with enthusiasm. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed alpine skiing, running, boating and deep-sea fishing. He also had a love of history and spent many hours reading and learning. Also, he was passionately engaged in current world events and never missed his favorite TV news program every Sunday.

Upon retirement, Paul and Caroline relocated to Destin, Florida, where they enjoyed warmer days and continued to create cherished memories together and with friends. That said, they never missed a grandchild's milestone or special event and were always looking for excuses to visit New England and spend time with their family.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline (Cox) Tierney of Haverhill; his children, Kimberly Gildea and her husband Andrew Gildea of Boxford, Felicia Tierney and her husband Brian Maloney of Quincy, and Tamara MacDonald and her husband Rick MacDonald of Hingham. He was the cherished grandfather of Conner, Kyle, Colleen, Liam, Drew, and Caroline. Paul is also survived by his sister, Frances Albright. He was predeceased by his siblings Rita Corkery, M. Leo Tierney and George Tierney.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours for Paul on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 1 pm to 4 pm at C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home located on 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, Massachusetts.
