Paul F. O'Brien Jr.

Paul F. O’Brien Jr., 67, of Weymouth, passed away on October 29th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma.

Paul grew up in West Roxbury and graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. Paul later made Weymouth his home for more than 30 years, where he was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. He was the beloved husband of Angela (Cyr) O’Brien of 33 years and the devoted father of his two children —  daughter, Kaleigh, his “princess,” and son, Sean, who proudly follows in his father’s footsteps as a pipefitter for Union 537. Paul’s greatest joy was being “Poppy” to his precious granddaughter, Hazel Lee, who brought endless light and laughter to his days.

Born to the late Paul and Joan O’Brien, Paul was one of five siblings. He is survived by his sister Carol Kuhn and her husband Chris of Dedham; his brother Stephen O'Brien and his partner Arthur of Palm Springs, California, his sister Susan Lawrie and her husband Edward of Walpole, and brother-in-law Kenneth Cyr and his wife Margaret of Canton, GA. He was predeceased by his beloved brother and best friend, John O’Brien. Paul also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews — Chris, Teresa, Kristen, Ryan, and Jack — as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

For 38 years, Paul was a proud and dedicated member of Local 537 Pipefitters, where he was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and generosity. He never took a sick day, always showed up with integrity, and was the first to lend a hand or an ear to a coworker in need. He was the kind of man who quietly made a difference — an agent behind the scenes, guiding others with wisdom, patience, and heart.

Paul lived his life with courage, humor, and compassion. He once saved a disabled man from a burning car without hesitation, a perfect reflection of his selfless nature. He was always the first to help his neighbors — mowing lawns, shoveling driveways, or moving furniture — usually before anyone even asked. His dry sense of humor, steady strength, and kind heart touched everyone who knew him.

Even as he faced months of pain and suffering, Paul never complained. When asked how he was, he’d simply say he was “good” or “great.” Through it all, he kept his quick wit and dry sense of humor, finding moments to make others laugh even in the darkest days. That was Paul — humble, strong, and hopeful.

He was a passionate New England sports fan, never missing a Patriots game (even when he insisted they “didn’t deserve to win”) and faithfully cheering on the Bruins, Red Sox, and Celtics.

In his younger years, Paul was a talented baseball player, playing for Northeastern and his local union team. He loved going to the gym and took pride in his strength, able to bench press 240 pounds and even winning several arm-wrestling competitions.

To his family, Paul was a hero — the definition of strength, loyalty, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family and friends are invited for a visitation to celebrate Paul’s life on Wednesday, November 12th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. South Weymouth. Family and friends are also invited to gather the following day, Thursday November 13th, at 9:30 AM at the funeral home to form a procession to the Immaculate Conception Church for a funeral Mass which will start at 10:30 AM.

Memorial contributions can be made in Paul’s name to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for the continued research and treatment of multiple myeloma, South Shore Hospital, and the South Shore VNA.
