Paul J. Bracken, age 89, passed away on April 3, 2026. Born on August 26, 1936, he was originally from Dorchester and most recently a resident of Weymouth.
Paul was raised and educated in Dorchester, where he attended St. Margaret’s Parish and graduated from Boston Trade High School in 1954. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country in a distinguished career, ultimately retiring with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
After his initial deployment, Paul returned home and married his beloved wife, Helen, in 1960. They settled in Weymouth in 1961, where they built their life together, raised their family, and created countless fond memories. Paul began his career as an Apprentice Shipfitter with Bethlehem Steel at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, and eventually retired from Parsons-Main Power Group as the Manager of Construction in 1998. During his career he continued to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring from the Marine Corps in 1996 with over 20 years service.
Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years Helen Bracken (Murray). He is survived by his loving children: Joseph Bracken and his wife Paula of Bridgewater; James Bracken and his wife Amy of Harwich; Kathleen Ronan of Marshfield; Marianne Adams and her husband Dana of North Carolina; and Daniel Bracken and his wife Julie of Kingston. He was the cherished grandfather of Emily, Erin, Lauren, Caroline, Maryclare, James, Maggie, Mac, Hannah, Grace, Maeve, Theodore, Cullen, Bridgette, and Amelia, and the great-grandfather of Kaiden, Brooks, and Cole.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Paul on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home Thursday morning at 9am for a Celebration of Life reflection prayer and to join the funeral procession to St. Francis Xavier Church for the Funeral Mass which will begin at 10am. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 12:30pm.
