Obituary

With heavy hearts but a lifetime of beautiful memories, we are sharing that our wonderful mom, Grammy, great-grandmother, and sister, Nancy Jean Walling (Harris), passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at Pope Nursing Home in Weymouth. At 88 years old, she remained sharp as a tack with an incredible memory right until the very end, even as her body began to fail her.

Born on November 10, 1937, in Weymouth to Harriet and Alton Harris, Nancy was a proud, lifelong resident of the South Shore. In 1954, she married the love of her life, George Richard Walling. While they lived in a few different spots over the years, it was their cozy cottage-style home in East Weymouth where they settled down the longest and built their life together.

And a bustling life it was - Nancy and George were blessed with four daughters (yes, all girls!). While keeping up with Sue, Nancy, Donna, and Jane was a full-time job, Nancy also patiently tolerated George’s love for farming. Their East Weymouth backyard was often home to an assortment of rabbits, chickens, and goats. Despite the mini-farm, Nancy always found time to tend to her gardens, creating a gorgeous yard that was the envy of the neighborhood. She was the kind of neighbor everyone loved having next door.

Once her girls grew up, Nancy brought her warm smile to Shaw’s Supermarket in Weymouth. It wasn't just a job to her; she genuinely loved chatting with the customers and made lifelong friends with many coworkers.

Following George’s passing in 2021, Nancy turned a new page, moving from her longtime cottage to the Allerton House in Weymouth. She was later welcomed into the Plymouth home of her daughter Jane and husband Ron, where she resided before eventually transitioning to the Pope Nursing Home. Through every change, her mind stayed completely clear. When she wasn't cheering loudly for the Red Sox and the Patriots, you could find Nancy working on a crossword or putting together a complex jigsaw puzzle.

But nothing brought her more pure joy than her family. Her four girls graced her with ten grandchildren, who proudly called her Grammy. They later delighted her with 19 great-grandchildren. From the oldest teenager down to the littlest toddlers, Grammy was the anchor of this big, beautiful crew.

Nancy was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband George; her cherished grandson, James Twombly; and her brother, David Harris.

Her legacy of love lives on through her daughters: Susan Murphy (Brian) of Abington, Nancy O’Donnell (Brian) of Norwell, Donna Boisvert of Hingham, and Jane Twombly (Ron) of Plymouth. She is also deeply missed by her grandchildren (Janine, PJ, Michelle, Julie, Matthew, Carrie, Kelley, Ronny Jr., and Gary), her 19 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Deb Harris Watson of Orlando, FL.

Nancy will be laid to rest alongside George at Mount Hope Cemetery in Weymouth. If friends or family would like to do something in Nancy’s memory, donations to your favorite charity are appreciated. To honor her wishes, the burial service will be private for her immediate family.
