Mary Coghlan, age 86, of Weymouth passed away peacefully after a long and faithful life.
Mary was raised in Dorchester but spent most of her life living in Weymouth. Mary recieved a Bachelor of Science in Education from State College at Boston and a Master of Education Degree from Boston University. Laying the path for a passionate career in education, which even awarded her being listed in the Who's Who among America's Teachers 2000 edition. She dedicated more than 40 years to teaching sixth grade in the Weymouth Public Schools, where education was not only her profession but also one of her greatest passions. Outside of the classroom, Mary was a talented quilter who took great pride in her work.
Mary cherished the many memories she made traveling with friends, including trips throughout Europe and the western United States. She also enjoyed reading and watching CatholicTV and was a true woman of faith. Throughout the years, she could often be found attending Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, where she shared her faithful life with many dear friends. Mary was always very social and was blessed with many friends and relatives who brought joy to her life. Charity was also important to Mary which she gave generously to every year.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Edmund and Helen Coghlan (Callahan), her sister Claire Gavin and her brother Edward (Buddy) Coghlan. She is survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will hold her memory dear as they continue their lives.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Square), Weymouth.
Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning for a Celebration of Life prior to the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Watertown immediately following the Mass.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to South Shore Elder Services at PO Box 846035 Boston, MA 02284 or online at www.sselder.org. The meals on wheels program that they offer was critically important to Mary in her final years.
