Margaret O’Neil MacKenzie (Peg) was born October 19, 1928 at the Weymouth Hospital (now South Shore Hospital) to Margaret Desmond O’Neil and Karl O’Neil. She died on October 17 peacefully at her South Weymouth home of 70 years.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert T. MacKenzie and her six sisters. She attended E. B. Nevin school and graduated from Weymouth High in 1946 and married Bob in 1950. She was a wonderful mother to her large family and taught them to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Peg was always active in her community starting with the Pond Plain Improvement Association where she became President. She was also a member of the Fulton School PTA for 25 years. After raising her 8 "wonderful" children she became involved in politics and worked on many campaigns. She was a lifetime member of the Weymouth Democratic Town Committee where she was the first female chairperson. She was also a life member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee. Peg loved working at the Massachusetts State House as a senatorial aide for Senators Allan McKinnon and Bill Golden. She also delighted in being a Massachusetts delegate at six Democratic National Conventions. Peg worked at and retired from the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority as the Director of Tourism. A highlight of her career was when she was a member of the Electoral College where she proudly cast her vote for Al Gore for President in 2000. However, she was proudest to be of service to many people throughout her life.

Peg and her husband Bob traveled to all 50 states and extensively throughout Europe. In her later years she enjoyed gardening and and was proud of her yard and thankful for her son David for landscaping it. Bob and Peg wintered for many years in Fort Meyers, FL where she loved swimming, playing cribbage and visiting with all her friends.

She is survived by her eight children, Ann MacKenzie and her husband Brad Thilow of Crockett, CA, Kit Clayton and her husband Bob of Cortez, CO, Robert A. MacKenzie and his wife Monica of Hingham, Janet Gransaull and her husband Paul of Pembroke, Susan Dupras and her late husband Ray of Hingham, Timothy MacKenzie and his wife, Joanne Sanders of Hull, David MacKenzie of Weymouth and Carol MacKenzie of Hull as well as 18 cherished grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
