M. Kenneth Heckman Jr.

August 6, 1933 — October 7, 2023

M. Kenneth (Ken) Heckman Jr., age 90, of Hingham passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Ken was born and raised in E. Stroudsburg, PA. He was very passionate about education throughout his life, receiving a Bachelor's Degree from Lafayette College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity from Drew Seminary, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.

Ken married his beloved wife of 68 years, Alice, in 1955. After years of serving as pastor at various Methodist Parishes, Ken decided to expand his ministry to focus on the needs of children and families. Ken and Alice settled in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania and raised their family there while he pursued his Master’s Degree in Social Work. This gave him the ability and knowledge to help children in need as a social worker. Ken was also the President and CEO of Bases/United Methodist Home for Children.

Ken and Alice retired to Plymouth in 2000 and most recently have lived in Linden Ponds in Hingham since 2014.

Ken is survived by his wife Alice L. Heckman (Leary) of Hingham, his children Sarah Jane Andersen and her husband Eric of Newton, Elizabeth Dermond and her partner Ken King of South Coatesville PA, and Ken Heckman and his husband David Godinho of Hull, his grandchildren Donald Dermond and his wife Kelly, William Andersen and his partner Jon Santy, Kevin Dermond, and Laura Andersen, and a great-grandson Donald Dermond III.
