June E. Simmons

June Elizabeth (Weaver) Simmons, age 63, of Weymouth, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on July 3, 1963, to James S. Weaver and Judith A. Fuller, both of Weymouth, June was raised in East Weymouth. She was the oldest of three children.

At just 16 years old, June began dating Mark Simmons, who would go on to be her devoted husband of 39 years. A 1981 graduate of Weymouth North High School (Go Maroons!), June excelled in her studies and went on to attend Stonehill College, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Business Administration. While at Stonehill College, June made many friends, including her lifelong best friend Joan Leach.

On July 18, 1987, June married the love of her life, Mark Simmons, also of Weymouth. They welcomed their first child, Ashley Simmons, in December of 1989. Three years later in January of 1993, their family was complete with the birth of their son, James Simmons.

June worked primarily in banking before becoming a stay-at-home mother.

In 2017, June was diagnosed with breast cancer. June approached this challenge with the same tenacity she approached every part of her life. Her experience made her into a fierce supporter and advocate for others who battled breast cancer. 

June was kind, resilient, driven, and generous. She was deeply devoted to her family and dedicated an immeasurable amount of time to supporting her children. June chaperoned countless field trips, organized fundraisers and service opportunities, attended nearly every practice, game, or performance, and more. She became a familiar and friendly face at every school, on every team, and with every organization her children became involved with.

Her dedication to her husband Mark and her children could not be denied. She loved them loudly and proudly and could often be overheard sharing stories about them with friends, family, and even strangers. Even after 39 years of marriage, June and Mark could still be heard laughing at the same movies they first watched together decades before.

June has been described by friends and loved ones as “one-of-a-kind,” a “joyful presence,” “a force to be reckoned with,” “everyone’s mom,” and a “source of strength for others.” She never missed a birthday, an anniversary, or special occasion and often marked important dates by sending cards. June had a unique talent for making people around her feel seen and valued.

There were so many things about this life that June loved: the beach, Christmas, a glass of red wine, a hamburger and onion pizza from Lynwood, a good book, the New England Patriots, music, BU Hockey, and day trips to the Cape and to Maine. Most of all, June loved spending time with her family and friends.

June was a faithful church member throughout most of her life, first with The First Church in Weymouth and then Old South Union Church. She was active on nearly every committee, board, or group at some time.

There was always room for one more at June’s dinner table, and guests often left with to-go containers filled with food that she poured her heart into making. Many holidays were celebrated in her home, which she always decorated festively.

June is survived by her husband Mark (Weymouth), her daughter Ashley and her boyfriend Ethan Moeller (Franklin), and her son James (Quincy). She is predeceased by both of her parents, as well as her brother James Weaver. In addition to being a beloved wife and mother, she was a cherished niece, cousin, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend.

Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Sq.), South Weymouth, Massachusetts, 02190. Loved ones and friends are also respectfully invited to the Old South Union Church for a funeral service on Thursday, September 3 at 11am. Cremation will follow.
