Joseph M Hurney

Joseph M. Hurney, aged 71, of Rockland, MA passed away unexpectedly at home on January 11, 2023. Joe was born in Boston and raised in Hyde Park for most of his early life.   He was a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School.  Joe worked for First National Grocery Store and Savenor's before beginning his career as a machinist with the MBTA.  Joe worked for the "T" for 26 years and was a proud member of the MBTA Local 264. He married his long-time sweetheart Maureen in 1974.  They previously lived in Roslindale before settling in Rockland and starting a family.

Joe was an avid golfer.  He could almost always be found on the course playing, running a tournament, or watching the back nine on tv. Joe enjoyed fishing and was devoted to watching "his" Red Sox, no matter what the score was. He loved traveling, especially the family trips to Cape Cod and New Hampshire and vacations to Bermuda with his beloved wife Moe. But mostly Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy.

Joseph is predeceased by his beloved wife Maureen (Walley) Hurney and his parents, James and Gertrude (Bagley) Hurney. He is survived by his loving daughters, Jennifer Butts and her husband Christopher of Falmouth, Nicole Jenkins and her significant other David Chiang of Braintree and his grandchildren, Paige and Madison. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Bennett of South Weymouth.
