John Charles Swift, age 81, passed away suddenly on February 27, 2026.
Born in Weymouth on March 18, 1944, John built a life rooted in a devotion to family, quiet strength, and an unwavering work ethic. He worked as a facilities manager for many years for Tedeschi Food Shops and was well-known in the community for his snow plowing and carpentry skills.
He will be remembered for his genuine kindness, sense of humor, repetitive storytelling, and the joy he found in sharing the bounty of his garden harvest with family and neighbors. He also found happiness in duck hunting, striped bass fishing, cheering on the Red Sox, and spending time at the family camp in Maine.
Above all else, those closest to him will remember him first and foremost as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janis Swift (Robbins); his children, Jennifer Swift and her husband David Kelly of Potomac MD; Debra Swift of Highlands Ranch CO; David Swift and his wife Jill of Milford MA; and Cheryl Poitras and her husband Chad of Buxton ME. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Julia, Caroline, Jacob, Cassidy, Mathieu, Samantha, and Sofia, who brought great pride and happiness to his life.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8thfrom 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home (134 Pleasant Street, Weymouth, MA). A funeral service will be held at Holy Nativity Church (9 Nevin Rd. S. Weymouth, MA) on Monday, March 9th at 10:00 a.m. with burial to immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Holy Nativity Church.
