IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean F.
Thompsen
August 25, 1931 – March 7, 2026
Graveside Service
Jean F. Thompsen (Griffin) passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026. Born and raised in Westfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Griffin and Tyyne Griffin (Wiljanen). Jean was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School.
Following high school, Jean began her working life as a secretary at local businesses before going on to become an executive assistant for the office of the Governor of Massachusetts’ where, in keeping with her lifelong interest in politics, she was an avid volunteer in President Kennedy’s election campaign. After marrying and time at home with her growing family, Jean was employed at Sealy from 1973 until her retirement in 1994. She later came out of retirement to work alongside her daughter Katie at the South Shore ARC, something she greatly enjoyed.
Widowed in 1981, Jean devoted herself to raising her children with the help and support of many close friends and family. She especially enjoyed time with children, family and friends, occasional trips to Foxwoods, cooking, reading, playing cards and following the Red Sox and Patriots sports teams.
Jean is survived by her loving son, Arne G. Thompsen. She also held a very special place in the lives of her many nieces and nephews, serving as a beloved and grandmotherly presence to them throughout the years.
She was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Kathleen (Katie) A. Thompsen, and her sister, Margaret Riggs.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service where Jean will be laid to rest on March 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with the service beginning promptly at 11:15 AM, at Village Cemetery, 339 Washington St., Weymouth, MA 02188.
