Obituary

Driscoll, Jean (McDougall), 76, of Braintree, passed away suddenly, on April 28, 2026.

Born on March 23, 1950 in South Boston to Daniel and Dorothy McDougall, Jean was the eldest of five girls. A graduate of Cardinal Cushing High School, Jean went on to graduate from UMass Boston and began her lengthy teaching career with the Boston Public Schools. The majority of her career was spent at South Boston High School which gave her never-ending and always fascinating stories.

In 1974, Jean married her best friend, Joseph L. Driscoll and together they raised three wonderful daughters. In 1986, they made the difficult decision to move from South Boston to Braintree, (which at the time was like moving to another continent), in pursuit of better programs for their daughter Shannon, who was born with Down Syndrome. When it came to her children, Jean was a fierce advocate. She would stop at nothing to give them every opportunity.

Upon retirement Jean and Joe traveled the world, visiting Alaska, Europe and Canada. They also took yearly vacations to their favorite place on Earth, Aruba. Jean never truly recovered from the loss of her beloved Joe in 2021, after 49 years of marriage.

Jean valued her many friendships she made along the way, from childhood, to neighbors, to those she gained later in life. Jean’s proudest role was that of “Nana” to her five grandchildren. She loved them with all of her heart and was overly impressed with everything they did. From babysitting them when they were little, to summers on Cape Cod, to attending sporting events which she secretly hated but pretended to love, she was a forever constant in their lives. There will forever be a void without Jean here with us, but we are comforted knowing she is reunited with Joe.

Jean was the wife of the late Joseph L. Driscoll, BFD, devoted mother of Danielle Cole and her husband Mark of Braintree, Shannon Driscoll of Braintree, and Jacqueline Gagnon and her husband Scott of Tampa, FL, loving Nana of Alexander and Rory Cole and Brody, Lucy, and Colby Gagnon. She was the dear sister of Nancy Devlin (Jimmy) of Danvers, Margaret McDougall (Jack) of South Boston, Maureen Downs (Eddie) of South Boston, and Judy Flynn (Bill) of Hingham and sister in law of Kay Stefaney and Tom and Donna Driscoll. Also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she cherished greatly.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Jean on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 4 to 7PM at C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.), Weymouth, MA. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday May 6, 2026 at 10AM, followed by a burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
