Janet Southworth

Janet Southworth, age 84, of Weymouth MA, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

Janet was born April 27, 1941. She was raised in Braintree and graduated Braintree High School in 1959. Janet then graduated from Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. Janet was happy and proud to have remained friends with several classmates and she spoke fondly of their many lunch dates over the years.

Janet was a dedicated nurse. She worked as an IV nurse at Quincy City Hospital for over 25 years. After retiring from the hospital, Janet went on to become a home dialysis nurse with DaVita Dialysis. She found her work fulfilling and meaningful. And Janet was never short on funny stories of her co-workers and patients.

Janet loved being around people. Her home was always open to family, friends and wonderful neighbors. Janet enjoyed making crafts, knitting, watching Celtics games and entertaining friends and family in her backyard screen house by the pool. Janet was happy with a positive attitude about life and a great sense of humor. She was a fantastic friend. And Janet was the best aunt, always ready to play games and have fun! She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, mother Esther (Whitmarsh) (Southworth) Wight and father Edward Southworth, and her siblings, sister Eleanor Norris and brother Robert Southworth.Janet is survived by her sister-in-law Arlene Southworth and Arlene’s sister and Janet’s close friend Sandra Sweeney, both of Braintree MA, her two loving nieces, Sandy Schwartz of Lexington MA and Amanda (Amy) Hayes of Pebble Beach CA, and two very special honorary nieces, Lisa Felci Jimenez of Burlington MA and Marissa Pasquarello of Methuen MA, daughters of Janet’s dear friends John and Diane Felci. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA at 10am on Friday, January 2, 2025 for a funeral service that will begin promptly at 10:30am.
