James "Jim" Ryan, 77, of Weymouth passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2025 surrounded by family. Jim was born in Brighton to the late James F. Ryan and Margaret A. Ryan (McGowan). During his childhood years, Jim spent countless summers at their family cottage in Hampton Beach, NH. Right out of high school, Jim enlisted into the Navy, where he served proudly on the USS America during the Vietnam War. Jim married the love of his life, Carol, in 1977. They lived in Arlington before settling in Weymouth shortly after to raise their family. Jim spent most of his career working for the City of Somerville.
Jim was a very proud veteran and loved learning and reading about current events and history. He could frequently be found scratching lottery tickets, driving around town, or enjoying the beach. Despite all of Jim's accomplishments, his biggest was his family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carol Ryan (Petro), and their three children: Kelly Scholl and her husband, Jeremy, James Ryan and his partner, Kate, and Kayla Ryan, all of Weymouth. Jim is also survived by his grandchildren Emily, Gavin, and Gabi, and his siblings, the late Elaine Meadows and her husband, Harry, Stephen Ryan and his wife, Diane, and Margaret Ryan and her husband, the late Frank DiBenedetto. He is also survived by his sister in law Carol Petro and her late husband, Donald, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
