James Harkins, aged 57, passed away on May 20, 2023. Jim was born in Dorchester and raised and educated in South Weymouth. Jim graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1984. After high school he went on to work as an electrician with Boston Local 103 for thirty-seven years before retiring.
In his free time, Jim often enjoyed fishing, and he was an enthusiastic Boston sports fan. His work with IBEW gave him the opportunity to travel for work, which allowed him to see much of the country during his career. As a result of his travels, Jim made friends from coast to coast and whether it be these friends, his friends from Local 103 or his lifelong friends from Weymouth, Jim loved to keep in touch. He was quick with a joke, enjoyed a good laugh and loved to share a story.
Jim is predeceased by his loving mother, Elinor Harkins (Doble), his brother, Paul Harkins, and his brother-in-law, Ted Hannon. Jim is survived by his loving father Richard Harkins Sr. He is also survived by his siblings, Laurianne Hannon of North Falmouth; Robert Harkins of Braintree; Nancy Minghella and her husband Tom of Burlington; Richard Harkins Jr. and his wife Christine of New Hampton, New Hampshire; Ruth Harkins of Quincy; Diane Kelcourse of Weymouth; Michael Harkins and his wife Victoria of Center Ossipee, New Hampshire; Anne Kelly and her husband John of Milton; Eileen Harkins and her partner Brian Machado of Assonet; Joseph Harkins and his wife Cyline of Braintree, and many nieces and nephews.
