Irving S. Walling Jr., of Revere, passed away at his home on March 30, 2026.
Raised in Weymouth, Irv was a graduate of Weymouth North High School, Class of 1974, where he was proudly involved in the music programs.
In his early twenties, Irving discovered his lifelong passion for horse racing. He began his career working as a horse groomer and through dedication, later became a licensed horse trainer. Over the years, he owned and trained several racehorses, building a life around the track he loved so deeply. Suffolk Downs was his home base, but his work took him to tracks including Tampa Bay Downs, Delaware Park, and along the fair circuit. The racetrack community became an extended family to him.
When Irv wasn't at the track, you could find him at a local steak house, trying his luck on Keno or playing roulette at the casino.
Irving was predeceased by his parents, Irving Sr. and Rose (Lanahan) Walling, and his brother, William Walling.
He is lovingly survived by his siblings, Jim Walling of Halifax, and Sally Holmes and her husband John of Abington. He was a proud uncle to Jessica Sweeney, Erica Beaudry, Eddie Holmes, Michael Holmes and the late Jennifer Walling. He was also a cherished great-uncle to Emily, Austin, Mark, and Isla.
Irving will be remembered for his passion for horse racing, his love for the casino and the connections he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
All are welcome to a memorial church service at St. Jerome Parish (632 Bridge St North Weymouth) on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 10:30am followed by a graveside service at Old North Cemetery in North Weymouth.
