Irene Bosworth

Irene A. Manupelli Bosworth (Frongillo) passed away on August 8, 2023 at age 90. Irene was born, raised, and educated in the West End of Boston. She graduated from high school in 1951 and the following year, married George Manupelli. The two stayed in Boston for a time but decided to move to Weymouth in 1958 to raise their loving family. While living in Weymouth, Irene worked at R & A Sub Shop and then at Stop and Shop for twenty-plus years, retiring in 1991. Later in life after the the passing of her first husband George, Irene married Richard Bosworth and the two were together until Richard's passing in 2016. Irene remained in her home until her passing.

Irene was a member of the Red Hat Society of Weymouth, the Naughty Knitters of the Weymouth Senior Center and the Weymouth Newcomers Club, which she had been involved in since 1958. Irene was also a member of the Whippoorwhill Chorus, a group that would sing at local hospitals and nursing homes. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, and jigsaw puzzles. In her younger years, she loved to travel.

Irene is survived by her children, Linda Hanover and her partner Jim Young, of North Falmouth; Elaine Colonna and her husband Jim, of Franklin; Steven Manupelli and his wife Joanne, of Whitman; and Gloria Gould and her husband Bob, of Halifax.  She is also survived by her step-children, Tracy Downey and her husband LLoyd, of Charlston, Maine; Richard Bosworth and his wife Mary, of Grand Marais, Michigan; and Laurie Bosworth of Mashpee. Irene was a loving nana to her grandchildren, Kevin, Kristen, Robyn, Melanie, Shane, Cameron, and Ally. She was also a loving great nana to her 9 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, George Manupelli and her second husband Richard Bosworth. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours for Irene on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 12-2pm in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Square) South Weymouth. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, at Old South Union Congregational Church, located at 25 Columbian Street in South Weymouth, at 2:30pm.
