Gladys “Toni” Chella (Hinds), age 83, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on January 1, 2026. Toni was born and raised in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1960.
Toni met her husband, Joseph “Joe” Chella, after he completed his service in the United States Navy. With Joe’s determination after meeting Toni, the two were married on July 16, 1967. They began raising their family in Quincy and later settled in South Weymouth, where they created a loving home that has remained in the family for many decades.
Toni’s greatest joy and purpose was her family. A nurturing woman by nature, she always made sure her children had everything they needed, including opportunity, guidance, and perspective.
In addition to the many fond memories of raising her family in Weymouth with her husband, Joe, Toni cherished countless trips to the Lake Winnipesaukee area in New Hampshire and to Old Orchard Beach in Maine. Together, Toni and Joe were staples of the South Shore BMX Association, where they spent many years running races at the Weymouth Fairgrounds while proudly supporting their own children as they competed. These events often took their family throughout the Northeast, as well as on a memorable trip to Indianapolis for the BMX World Championships, creating lasting memories alongside their children.
Gladys “Toni” Chella was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph “Joe” Chella, and her siblings, Billy, Jane, and Johnny. She is survived by her loving children, Christine Chella and her significant other, Paul Cronin Sr., both of Weymouth, and Joseph “JJ” Chella and his significant other, Angela Ackerman, both of Connecticut. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Paul Cronin Jr., Garrett Chella, and Samantha Chella. Toni is further survived by her siblings, Margie Cogswell, Mary Keppler, and Terri Hinds.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation for Toni on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service from 1:00 to 1:30 PM at the C. C.
