Gary W. Smith of MA passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2025, at the age of 66. Gary was born in 1958 in RI, to Thomas F. Smith and Margaret E. (Perry) and was raised in Warwick RI.
He graduated high school in 1978 and then went on to earn an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He met the love of his life Barbara roller skating, and together they built a family of five.
Gary worked as an engineer at multiple prominent technology companies including DELL/EMC, where he worked on leading edge network storage systems, until his retirement in 2023.
Gary enjoyed the sun and the ocean often vacationing in Hollywood Beach, FL. He marked several special moments with travel, spending his 30th anniversary in Jamaica, and celebrating his 60th birthday with family in Greece.
Gary enjoyed walking, boogie boarding, riding his bike, ice skating, skiing, guitar, puzzles, billiards, and cornhole. He loved music and enjoyed line dancing, especially to the song “Wagon Wheel”. He would often talk about his trip to Ireland, and his memories of visiting Cape Cod and Squam Lake with his brothers.
Gary enjoyed life, and loved spending time with his family and laughing with his grandkids. He was competitive at every sport he played and enjoyed teaching his children everything he knew. He worked hard for many years to support his family. Gary enjoyed reminiscing about growing up with five brothers and later enjoyed many Sundays together again at their mom's home with his family and the next generation of nieces and nephews. Much time was spent playing guitar and eating homemade chicken soup together.
He is remembered as a loving father, who was proud of his family and openly expressed his love with big family hugs. His children have endless memories from fishing and camping trips to card games and computer shows.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; sons Bryan and his wife Cindy, Phillip and his wife Alicia, and daughter Brittany and her husband James. He is the proud grandfather of Liam, Archer, and Emma. Gary also leaves his brothers Thomas, Roger, and Paul. He was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Edward.
