Eugenia (Genie) N. (Dowd) O’Loughlin of Weymouth passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023 at the age of 87. Genie was raised and educated in Dorchester graduating from the Dorchester High School for Girls with the class of 1953. This was the year she met her future husband Bob. The two wed in 1956 and soon started a family. They lived in Schenectady. N.Y. for several years where they made lifelong friends. They eventually moved back to the Boston area, raising their children in East Braintree. Genie went to work at State Street Bank where she worked until her retirement in 1995. In retirement, she and Bob moved to E. Falmouth where they enjoyed many good years at "The Cape House" with family and friends.
Genie was a great listener and a very interesting person. She was an extremely talented baker and cook and shared her delightful confections with everyone. She enjoyed knitting, traveling, and gardening, and was an avid Red Sox fan. Genie's faith was an integral part of her life. She was a devoted and active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth Landing. She spent more than 15 years volunteering at South Shore Hospital and Falmouth Hospital. Above all else, Genie cared most for her family and would cherish any time she got to spend with them, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she saw as often as she could.
Eugenia was the beloved wife of 66 years of Robert Emmett O’Loughlin of Weymouth. She was the loving mother of Mary Beth Brady and her husband John of Weymouth, Erin O’Loughlin and her husband Mark Klobucher of Nashua NH, Robert M. O’Loughlin and his wife Kathleen of Raynham, Kevin O’Loughlin and his wife Kristine of Hopedale. Genie was predeceased by her daughters, Catherine and Ann O’Loughlin. She was the devoted Grandma of Moira, Caitlin, Michael, Kelly, John, Patrick, Sean, Thomas, Catherine, Elise, Kayla, and Jack. Genie was also blessed to be the great grandma of Abigail, Liam, Aubrianna, Grace, Eleanor, Alanna, Thomas, Amelia, Theodore, Mary and Rose. Genie also leaves behind her brothers Timothy Dowd of Sonoma, CA, Michael Dowd of Paris, TX and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Genie on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 4-7 in the evening in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home (134 Pleasant St. Weymouth). A Celebration of Life will take place in the funeral home Thursday February, 2, 2023 at 9:30AM prior to a Funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at the Plain St. Cemetery in Braintree. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer‘s Association or to Beacon Hospice.
