Ethel M. Reid

Ethel M. Reid (Sharkey), 85, of Weymouth passed away on May 28, 2025. Ethel was born and raised in West Roxbury, before graduating from Roslindale High School in 1957. Soon after, Ethel began working at First National Bank of Boston. Ethel met the love of her life, Leo, and they married in 1963, before settling in Weymouth and starting their family. Once Leo retired, Ethel followed just two weeks later.

Ethel could frequently be found playing bingo at Immaculate Conception. Ethel was also an avid traveler, she set sail on over 40 cruises. Some of her favorite vacation destinations include Italy, France, Spain, Ireland, Iceland, Mexico, Scotland, England, most of the Caribbean islands, and Las Vegas. She was a voracious reader, often reading more than one book at a time. When she wasn’t traveling with Leo, or reading multiple books, she was knitting or crocheting. She could make an entire small afghan in one sitting.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Leo Reid of Weymouth, and her four children: Essie Lechiaro and her husband, Paul, of Millis, Kelly Moore and her husband, Scott, of Whitman, Tom Reid and his wife, Lauren, of Portugal, and Laura Reid of Weymouth. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Alexis and her husband Brian, Bryce, Meghan, Cameron, Joshua, Justin, Harrison, Jessica, and Brennan; two sisters in law, Patricia Reid and Terrie Reid, and her siblings: Joan Jacobs, William Sharkey, Valerie Roche, and Thomas Sharkey. Ethel is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours for Ethel on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 4-7pm at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.), S. Weymouth, MA.

Family and friends are also invited to the funeral home for a funeral service beginning promptly at 10am on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth.
