Dorothy Marie Grasso (McCarthy), age 71, passed away after a brief illness with dementia and lung cancer, surrounded by her children and nephew on Tuesday March 10, 2026.
Dottie was raised and educated in Braintree, graduating from Braintree highschool in 1972. She then attended Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry and graduated in 1973 as a certified dental assistant. She married her highschool sweetheart, Paul, during the blizzard of 1978, and then settled in Weymouth where they raised their family. She stayed home with her 3 kids until they were school aged and then began a long career as a waitress at many south shore establishments including the Venetian, where she spent most of her career charming diners with her quick wit and colorful vocabulary.
She loved skiing, the Beegees, Lynnwoods Pizza, a cold Miller light and her cats. She was a daytime television enthusiast and longtime fan of the Bold and the Beautiful and the Young and the Restless. She loved riding on the back of the Harley with Paul, and rocked a do-rag like noone else. They loved going on road trips on the bike and had fun wherever they went as long as it was together. She was the life of the party and was loved for her unfiltered personality, big heart, and biting humor. She loved cooking Sunday family dinners and family vacations to Lake Winnipesaukee, and in her last year rekindled an old love for painting.
Dottie is survived by her loving children Nick Grasso and his wife Danielle of North Andover, Chris Grasso and his wife Sarah of NY, Kelly Noska and her husband Adam of Westboro, and her nephew Paul Johnson of Weymouth. Dottie is also survived by her grandchildren Everly, Oliver, Teddy, Penelope and Anthony as well as her siblings Denise Barlow of Yarmouth, Diane Palermo of Sandwich, and Paul McCarthy of Quincy. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends whom she loved dearly. Dottie was predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate of 42 years, Paul A. Grasso, of Weymouth who passed in 2020.
She was truly one of a kind and will be loved, missed and remembered with a smile by all.
Special thanks to the staff and caretakers of Whitney Place in Westborough who cared for "Naughty Dottie" like their own mother, and always treated her with love, dignity and respect. She loved you all. Dude.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to a visitation to celebrate Dottie's life on Friday, March 20 from 10AM to 12PM at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. Weymouth. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 12PM in the funeral home. A private burial will take place later.
