Obituary

Donald Dewey, 85, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Born on March 4, 1941, in Easton, Massachusetts, Donald was the son of the late William and Gertrude Dewey.

On June 16, 1973, Donald married the love of his life, Janice L. (Romano) Dewey. Together they shared a beautiful marriage built on love, friendship, and devotion. They were true soulmates who enjoyed every chapter of life together.

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honored to be a United States Veteran. His service was a source of great pride throughout his life.

A talented chef, Donald spent his career working in hotels from North Carolina to New York and Boston. He concluded his culinary career at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, Massachusetts, where his dedication and passion for his craft left a lasting legacy.

Donald found joy in fishing, cooking holiday meals, and spending time with family, which was always the most important part of his life. He also treasured his weekly gatherings with friends as a member of the Friday Breakfast Club.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Romano Dewey of Weymouth; his daughters, Heather C. Goss and husband Mark of Hanson, Massachusetts, Anne-Marie Hutto of North Carolina, and Lisa Ann Furr of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Hunter William Dewey-Defabrizio of Weymouth, Sofia Catherine Defabrizio of Hanson, Amanda Moore, and Holly Hutto of North Carolina; his great-grandchildren, Nolan Hutto and Madison Moore of North Carolina; and his brother, Donald George of Texas. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart and were loved as if they were his own children and grandchildren.

Donald was predeceased by his twin sister, Donna P. Saunders of Plymouth, and his brothers, Ronald George of Middleborough, Edward Davis of Nevada, and Frederick Diamond of Illinois.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant Street, South Weymouth, Massachusetts 02190.
