Denis E Mathews

Denis E. Mathews, of Braintree, passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 64. Born in Boston on October 10, 1960, he was the son of the late Denis E. Mathews and his stepmother Eleanor T. Mathews, and of the late Joan M. Lavoie (Rubino) and his stepfather Paul E. Lavoie. Denis was raised in Braintree and graduated from Braintree High School with the Class of 1978.

He began his career as a machinist before transitioning into the IT field, his true professional passion. Over the years, he worked for several companies including CISCO and OneBeacon, where he was known for his dedication and skill.

Denis had a love for adventure. He enjoyed snowmobiling every chance he could, cooking, skiing, and providing “family tech support” to anyone who needed it. He cherished family gatherings, memorable trips—including a special visit to Hawaii—and time spent on Cape Cod and in Maine.

Denis is survived by his siblings: Michelle Mathews of Chester, NH; Mark E. Mathews and his wife Gina of Rockland, MA; Donnah L. Mathews Plante and her husband Matthew of East Greenwich, RI; He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews Kelly, Riley, JD, and Aubrey, as well his aunts and many cousins.

In 2014, Denis survived cancer thanks to a life-saving bone marrow transplant. After the transplant, he faced many challenges and continued to have health issues, yet he remained deeply grateful for the extra time life had given him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to their cousins, Sharilee F Daily, her late husband Jack of Weymouth, MA; and Billy Fountain of Weymouth, MA. Their bond went beyond that of cousins, they were true friends. When Denis became ill, they selflessly stepped in as his caretakers, providing unwavering support and care during a difficult time.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family suggests you honor Denis’s memory by sharing a meal with a loved one.
