Charles "Chuck" W. Deacon

March 8, 1949 — June 6, 2023

Kingston

Charles William Deacon, aged 74, passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2023. Chuck was born in Oneida, NY and raised and educated in Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High School in 1966. After high school Chuck attended college at UMass Boston and worked at Jordan Marsh until he was drafted into the United States Army to proudly serve in the Vietnam War, where he honorably earned a Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart. After returning home from the war, he began working at Jordan Marsh again until 1976, when he became a firefighter for the Weymouth Fire Department. Chuck worked his way through the ranks for many years until he became the Fire Chief in 2000. During his years as a firefighter, Chuck helped to develop and taught the SAFE program, a fire safety program for school aged children, for Weymouth Elementary Schools. He retired from the Fire Department in 2002.

Chuck was very active in his community and an avid public servant throughout his life. He would often volunteer as a driver for the Weymouth Elder Services. He instilled his love of public service and the importance of giving back to the community in his two daughters, Alicia and Meredith. Chuck adored his two beloved pets, Smokey, his dog, and Chuck Norris, his cat, that he would often take on walks. Chuck loved to travel, taking many trips to places like Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and several Cruises. His favorite getaway was the DogPatch cabin located in the Myles Standish State Forest, where he and his family spent their summers for many years. In 2011, Chuck earned his Bachelors of Geography from BSU. He was a car fanatic, loved corvettes and was know as the "resident fleet manager" at home. Every other Wednesday morning, Chuck enjoyed having breakfast with his retired firefighter friends. He was also a long time member of the Brockton Vietnam Veteran Group.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Barbara (Rhilinger) Deacon, his loving daughters, Alicia Shannon and her husband Bryan, of Whitman, and Meredith Michaelson and her husband Bryan, of Carver. He was also loved by his dear grandson, Deacon Patrick Michaelson. Chuck will be missed by his siblings, Joan Aigen and her husband Mark, of Norwell, Allen Deacon and his wife Joann, of Orange, and his sister in-laws, Patti Spacone and her husband Kenny, of Bridgewater, and Pinkie DeMasi and the late Ralph DeMasi, of Brockton. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Chuck on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 1-3pm in the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth. A memorial service will follow immediately in the funeral home at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brockton Veterans Center.
