Barbara A. Froio (Chambers), age 87, of South Weymouth, MA, passed away on December 24, 2025. Barbara was born in Weymouth, to Hilda and Cecil Chambers. She was raised by her mother Hilda and her Uncle John Peterson, known to Barbara as “The Saint”. She graduated from Weymouth High in 1956. She met her beloved husband, James, in the summer of 1959, and married October 15, 1960. They began their marriage in Abington and immediately started a family. They eventually moved to Hingham and after all five children were born, finally settled to Cohasset in 1978.. Once all her children graduated from Cohasset High School and she retired from real estate, she and “Gig” enjoyed 10 years of retired life close to the ocean in Hull. They most recently lived in The Weathervane in South Weymouth.
Barbara attained her LPN degree from Winthrop Community Hospital in 1958, and worked as a nurse at both Winthrop and Milton Hospitals. She subsequently obtained her realtor’s license in 1968, which developed into a very successful and award-winning career. She did this while managing a busy household, often closing a deal during dinnertime on a rotary phone in the kitchen. Barbara was caring, hard working, and fun-loving. Her high energy level had her up every day at 4:30AM and most of her daily chores finished by 7:30AM. She had a gift and passion for gardening which fully blossomed at their home on Manomet Avenue in Hull. Many guests and family members enjoyed sitting in Nana’s beautiful backyard garden, a truly remarkable labor of love.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband James V. Froio in 2018 and her brother, Robert Chambers years before. She is survived by her brother, John Chambers and his wife Agnes. She was the loving mother of James Froio Jr., Gina Froio and her wife Caryn of Hull, Karen Froio of Wayland, Dr. John Froio and his wife Virginia of Cohasset, and Glen Froio and his wife Barbara of Hingham; Her cherished grandchildren include Jay, Aaron, Camryn, Justin, Caroline, James, Luke, and Dominic. She was the special aunt to Robert Chambers, Jr and his wife Theresa, along with many nieces and nephews. Barbara will also be remembered by her amazing group of friends who have been together since elementary school.
A burial service for Barbara has taken place and was private for her family. She was buried alongside her husband James at the Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth, MA. A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Anthony’s Church in Cohasset on January 24, 2026 at 10AM, with a Celebration of Life reception to follow at the Hingham Yacht Club in Hingham. As she participated in multiple fund-raising walks for the Jimmy Fund, donations can be made in her name to this organization.
