William MacDonald, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with Cancer. Bill was the loving husband for 61 years of Elizabeth (Arthur) MacDonald. He is survived by his children, William D. MacDonald and his wife Cheryl of Rockland, John R. MacDonald and his Fiancé Gloria of Exeter, NH and Libbie Foley and her husband Stephen of Pembroke, his Aunt, Helen Anderson of NH, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter Cheryl Marie MacDonald. Mr. MacDonald was born in Quincy and was a life long resident of Weymouth. He was a carpenter for Dan Brown, worked as a purchaser for Foxboro Company for 20 years and Kearns Electric Company in Boston for 10 years before working for A.F.I. in Canton as a technician for 10 years. He retired in 2005. Bill was a past deacon at the Old South Union Congregational Church in Weymouth. He enjoyed sailing and later power boats and was a past Commodore for the South Shore Yacht Club in Weymouth, was a member of the Braintree Pistol and Rifle Club and enjoyed hunting. He loved camping with his family at Sebago Lake and was an avid cribbage player. Mr. MacDonald had many hobbies and was always there to help you with your projects. Bill will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of enjoying his company. A Funeral Service will be held at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Thursday December 31 at 11 A.M. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery in Weymouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Dr. Braintree, MA 02185-9060.
