John E. Currie

d. May 25, 2022

John E. Currie passed away suddenly on May 25, 2022, at the age of 66. John was born, raised, and educated in Jamaica Plain, graduating from Don Bosco Technical High School. He worked various jobs in the electrical trade before finding his nearly 30-year career at the Braintree Electric and Lighting Department.

John was an outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hiking and most of all, his camping. He would spend any time he could at his seasonal campsite in Maine. John was a handyman and could be found tinkering on or building something at any time. He was also an amazing cook on the grill and loved smoking meats. His knack for cooking led to Papa’s famous bacon which was sought after by family and friends. Above all else, John was a family man and cherished all the time he spent with his family, with special attention to his grandchildren.

John was the son of the Late Gerald Currie and Rita Currie of Braintree. He was the loving husband of Mary Currie. John was the devoted father of Darnica Currie and her fiancé Don Frazier of Bridgewater, Leslie Greco and her husband Aaron of Whitman, and John Currie II of Weymouth. John was cherished “Papa” of Arianna, Lucas, Myles and Gracie. John leaves behind his siblings Debbie Chaskes, Karen Currie, Judy Penny, Marianne Fisher and Kathy Knoll. He was a beloved brother-in-law and uncle to the Ross family and a friend to many.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for John on Friday June 3, 2022, from 4 to 7 in the evening at the CC Shepherd Funeral Home in Weymouth. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday June 4, 2022, at 10:30AM with a cremation to follow.
