Richard “Dick” Bailey of Needham, MA passed away on May 24, 2022, at the age of 92. Dick was born, raised, and educated in Needham and graduated from Needham High School in 1948. Dick then went on to study engineering at Umass Amherst graduating in 1952. In 1953 he joined the United States Army where he served until his honorable discharge in 1961. Upon concluding his service to his country Dick began an eclectic career that spanned many different practices. He began his professional life as a mechanical engineer beginning with a job at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth NH and concluding his engineering career at Deer Island in Boston MA. In later years Dick would also hold jobs as a teacher of statistics at Quincy College as well as becoming a clinical counselor and mediator. Dick officially retired in his early 70s but still picked up part time jobs to stay active through his later years.

Dick lived his life to the fullest potential. He enjoyed photography, movies and reading many different nonfiction books about numerous topics including psychology, photography and art. Dick was an amateur musician specializing in playing the bongos. Dick was a proud member of the Beyond War Organization, seeking to end war before global catastrophe. Above all else Dick was a family man and would cherish the time he spent with them.

Dick was the loving father of Melissa Roland and her husband Chris of Washougal, WA, Sarah Murphy and her husband Kevin of Braintree, Jennifer Bonino of Middleboro, and Richard C. Bailey of Natick. He was the devoted grandfather of Timothy, Shauna, Tyler, Kelly, Parker, Katelyn, Joshua and Rowan and great grandfather of Charlotte and Vincent. Dick also leaves behind his brother Gordon Bailey of Thailand, two nieces and a nephew.

Services for Dick will be private. Donations may be made in Dick’s memory to Alzheimer's Association.
