James David Moriarty passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 24, 2022, at the age of 84. Jim was born and raised in Savin Hill. He graduated from Dorchester High School with the class of 1955. Immediately after graduating, Jim joined the Marines and served honorably for 3 years. After his years in the armed forces, Jim married his wife Mary in 1961 and went to work on the Mystic River/Tobin Bridge as a toll collector, finally retiring as a lieutenant in his position in 1997.

Jim and Mary enjoyed many years of retirement at their home in Weymouth. Jim was a proud homeowner and could always be found working in the yard. He enjoyed family get togethers, especially the days out by the pool. Above all else Jim was a family man and loyal friend making sure all were taken care of. He cherished time with all his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim will be missed by all who knew him.

Jim was the son of the late Cornelius and Margaret Moriarty. He was the devoted husband of 61 years to Mary (Kehoe) Moriarty of Weymouth. Jim was the loving father of Laura Hoyle and her husband Randy of Weymouth, James Moriarty Jr. and his wife Angela of Florida, Jean Majenski of Marshfield and Michelle Mulligan and her husband Donald of Whitman. He was the cherished Papa of Timothy, Joseph, James, Allison, Kathryn, William, Andrea and the Great Papa of Aiden and Cole. Jim also leaves behind his siblings Claire Derba and her husband Eugene and Neil Moriarty and his wife Lynn and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Jim on April 2, 2022, from 10am-12pm at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. Weymouth MA. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12pm in the funeral home. A burial will take place at a later date. In Lieu of flowers donations in Jim’s memory can be made to Cops for Kids with Cancer at https://copsforkidswithcancer.org/donation/ or to Hospice of the South Shore https://www.southshorehealth.org/give .
