Marjorie E. (Gorman) Newton of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 4 at the age of 94. Born December 1926 in Boston, MA, she was the fourth child of George Luther Barker and Annie Elizabeth (Eaton) Barker and was predeceased by her eight siblings.

“Margie” was a resident of South Weymouth, MA for 50 years where she raised her family with the late John F Gorman. Following Jack's death in 1974, she later married Brooks C. Newton. Brooks and Margie spent many summers enjoying Cape Cod in Mashpee on Peter's Pond before they eventually moved to Venice, Florida where they resided for many years. Both Brooks and Margie were very active in the community where she was a member of the South Venice Yacht Club, Civic Club and Recreation Club. Upon Brooks death in 1994, Margie moved to Orange Park, FL. A very enthusiastic reader, she continued to actively volunteer at the local library.

Always greeting everyone with a smile, she truly enjoyed Scrabble and playing cards with her family who noted she was a first-rate bluffer. Perhaps her most memorable event was when, as a teenager, she and friends rowed out to and climbed Minot’s Ledge Lighthouse in Scituate, MA, a granite tower reaching a height of 114 feet.

She is survived by her daughters; Jacqueline Bickner of Green Cove Springs FL, Joanne Alcorn and her husband Kenneth of Orange Park FL, Jean Gorman of West Bridgewater, MA and Janice Ethridge and her husband Al of Jacksonville FL. She is also survived by her son John Gorman of Lakeville MA and daughter in laws Patricia Gorman of Middleboro MA and Donna Gorman of Jacksonville FL. She was predeceased by her sons, Jay Gorman and Jeffrey Gorman.

“Margie” also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren including Christopher (Nichole) Bickner of Melrose Park FL, Rachel Bickner, Bradley Alcorn of Jacksonville FL, Ian Alcorn of Orange Park FL and Caitlin Gleed (Jeremy) of Seattle, WA.
