George Butters

d. June 17, 2021

George Warren Butters III, formerly of Duxbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 17th at the age of 77. George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen (Hiscock) Butters; sister Nancy Butters of North Carolina; his three children, son Craig and his wife Lindsay of Hingham, Kyle and his wife Lori of York, Maine and daughter Joy and her husband John Hartley of Duxbury. “Buppie”, as he was known, will be deeply missed by his six grandchildren, Colin, Riley, Addie, Dane, Henry and Libby, as well as nieces and nephews.

George was born on September 24, 1943 in Ludlow, MA to the late George Warren Butters Jr. and Jeanette E. Butters. He attended Lexington High School and the University of New Hampshire. George was the owner of GWC, Inc., a commercial construction company in Boston. After retiring from the construction business George owned and operated The Deli at Halls Corner in Duxbury for 15 years, where he was beloved by his customers and many employees. In his later years, George put his love of carpentry to work by starting Relics, a furniture repurposing business and HomeWorks, to help clients with smaller home projects.

George was an avid skier and boater, who was happiest taking family and friends on excursions to coastal communities up and down the eastern seaboard. He loved telling jokes, listening to Paul Simon and lathering himself up with baby oil. Somehow he managed to maintain super soft, wrinkle-free skin up until the end. A true “One of a Kind”, to know George was to love George, as any friend or member of his extended family would say.

A memorial service for George will be held at Pilgrim Church in Duxbury on Tuesday, June 29th at 11am. All who knew and loved George are welcome. He wouldn’t want it any other way. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
