Joseph Delaney of Weymouth passed away peacefully on October 26, 2020 at the age of 86. Joe was born, raised, and educated in South Boston. Upon graduating high school, he did a short term of service with the United States Army. After returning home Joe met his beautiful wife, Ethel, on K St. in South Boston and started work as a “sandhog” tunnel worker.

Joe was a man of many talents but most notable was his work ethic and perseverance. When he wanted to get into construction, he self-taught from blueprints, maps, and many books on tunnels and got into the industry, starting his own drilling and blasting business later. Along with the work he did to provide for his family he also had many hobbies including antique clock repair and collecting, outdoor activities, line dancing, music, and family vacations. Joe was a humble and gentle man and loved to learn about anything and everything. Above all spending time with his family was his ultimate joy. He will be severely missed by all who knew him.

Joe was the loving husband of 64 years to Ethel Delaney of Weymouth. He was the beloved father to Debbie Martino and her partner Brian of Plymouth, Joe Delaney and his wife Donna of Hanson and Mark Delaney of Weymouth. He was a devoted grandfather to Christopher, Sean, Danielle and Devlin also had the pleasure of being a Great Grandfather to Colin, Brian, Avery-Rose, Andrew and Finnegan. Joe was also one of 13 siblings, Billy, Jimmy, Danny, Mary, Margaret, Winnie, John, David, Katherine, Paul, Bobby and Martin.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours for Joe on Thursday November 5, 2020 from 4-7pm at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Square) Weymouth MA 02190. Funeral services will be private due to the current viral crisis.
