Gertrude Barr

Gertrude F. Barr (Snow), age 103, of Weymouth, MA passed away January 15, 2020. Gertrude was born in Medford, MA, and graduated Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, NH in 1935. After graduating from MGH School of Nursing in 1938, she met her husband, Alan Barr, started her family and moved to Groveland, MA, where she worked at Hale Hospital for ten years. She later moved to Weymouth, MA, and worked for Quincy Hospital until retirement.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Alan Barr, and her daughter, Diane MacQuarrie of Oklahoma. She is survived by her son, James Barr, and his partner Bonnie Rubin of Holbrook, MA, her grandchildren, Susan Moody and Eric MacQuarrie of Oklahoma, beloved great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Virginia Wells of Weymouth, MA, and Martha Urbati, of Hingham, MA.

She was honored in the Weymouth News in 2018 for being the oldest living graduate of MGH School of Nursing. Gertrude loved painting and traveling with her family travel group.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Gertrude on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.), Weymouth, MA. A Funeral Service will take place immediately following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA.
