Philip H. Chamberlain Jr., age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019. Mr. Chamberlain was born in Milton and raised in East Bridgewater and Braintree and graduated from Braintree High School in 1943. He was a South Weymouth resident for nearly 71 years.
Mr. Chamberlain was pre-deceased in 2012 by his wife of 66 years, the former Doris F. Marshall. He is survived by a son, Donald J. Chamberlain and his wife Peggy of Aiken SC; a daughter, Susan J. Tutkus and her husband Richard of Franklin; four grandsons, Michael P. Chamberlain and his wife Stephanie of Alexandria VA, USMC Sergeant-Major Jeffrey G. Chamberlain and his wife Tennille of Hernando MS, Eric P. Tutkus and his wife Odette of Uxbridge, and Andrew P. Tutkus and his wife Elyse of Southborough; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Ryan Chamberlain of Hernando MS, and Matthew P. and Thomas M. Chamberlain of Arlington VA.
Mr. Chamberlain served in the Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tulagi during the Philippine Island invasion and after the war aboard the USS Hydrographer charting the Marshall Islands for the Bikini Atoll explosions. He worked with his father in a family business for many years, then as a sales representative in the printing and book manufacturing industry for 25 years, retiring in 1985. The Chamberlains enjoyed a summer home in West Dennis for many years, and enjoyed traveling extensively in Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, and the United States.
Mr. Chamberlain was an active member of the Society of Technical Writers and Publishers and of Bookbuilders of Boston. He was also a former elected town meeting member for the Town of Weymouth and was an active member of the Pond Plain Improvement Association. He was active for many years in Boy Scout Troop 9 as his son achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a former president of the P.P.I.A. Bowling League and also bowled with the Weymouth Business Men’s league and the Weymouth Senior’s League.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours for Philip on Wednesday, January 23 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St., (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the Funeral Home for a funeral service in honor of Philip on Thursday, January 24 at 10am.
