Madelyn J. Ward (Leslie), age 99, of Norwell passed away December 26, 2018. Madelyn was born, raised, and educated in Boston. She moved to Weymouth in 1935 and has been a member of Holy Nativity Church in S. Weymouth and the George R. Bean post #79 of the American Legion since then. Madelyn married Ralph D. Ballou in 1941 and had a daughter with him before he passed away in 1945. She later married S. Paul Ward and stayed in Weymouth, while residing her winters in Zephyrhills, FL for over fifty years. Madelyn spent thirty five years traveling with the New England Avion Club, and was a past president of the group. Madelyn is a lifelong Red Sox fan who enjoyed gardening and playing cards with her friends at the Norwell Council on Aging.

Madelyn is survived by her beloved daughter Jean Whittaker and her husband George of Norwell, her granddaughter Kristen Whittaker and her husband Sean Sutton, and her great-grandchildren George, Riley, Haley, Shannon, Sydney and Reese.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the Funeral Service for Madelyn which will take place on Saturday January 5, 2019 at 1PM at Holy Nativity Church located at 8 Nevin Rd. S. Weymouth, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Madelyn's name to the Friends of the Norwell Counsel on Aging at 293 Pine St. Norwell, MA 02061. A celebration of her life will take place at Tinker’s Son Restaurant in Norwell following the Funeral Service. Please note this will be a business casual event and Red Sox attire is welcome. Madelyn’s burial will be private and will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Weymouth.
