James V. Froio, age 83, passed away August 9, 2018 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born, raised, and educated in Cohasset, where he excelled at football, basketball, and baseball at Cohasset High School. He then enlisted in the Army and was stationed for two years in Germany. When Jim returned, he met his beloved wife, Barbara, and they were soon married in 1960. They started a family together in Abington, spent time in Hingham, and eventually settled in Cohasset for over twenty years. They subsequently moved to Hull for some time, before moving to the Villages at Weathervane Golf Course in S. Weymouth for the last five years. Jim was an avid golfer and was a member of Cohasset Golf Club for over 40 years. He was also a huge Boston sports fan, enjoyed woodworking, and loved attending his grandchildren’s various athletic, theatrical, and scholastic events.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Froio (Chambers) of S. Weymouth, his loving children James Froio Jr. and his wife Danielle of Norton, Gina Froio of Hull, Karen Froio of Wayland, Dr. John Froio and his wife Virginia of Cohasset, and Glen Froio and his wife Barbara of Hingham; his cherished grandchildren Jamie, Aaron, Camryn, Justin, Caroline, James, Luke, and Dominic. Jim is also survived by his sister Rosalie Bravo of Hingham, his brother Dr. Ralph Froio of Hull and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Memorial Mass for Jim which will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 10:30AM in St. Anthony’s Church located at 10 Summer St. Cohasset, MA 02025. There will be a reception following this service at the Cohasset Golf Club, 175 Lamberts Lane, Cohasset, from 12:00-4:00PM. A Burial service for Jim has taken place and was private for Jim’s family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to either the Friendship Home at 458 Main St. Norwell, MA 02061, or the South Shore Health System Foundation at 55 Fogg Road, Weymouth, MA 02190.
