Donald Sargent

d. May 17, 2018

Donald H. Sargent, age 87, of Weymouth passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on May 17, 2018. Donald was raised and educated in Dorchester. He spent his summers in Hull. His first job was at Paragon Park running the kiddie rides. He joined the Navy when he was 17 and used his talent with machines to work as an aircraft mechanic for 20 years. A career man, he served his country through both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Upon his return, he continued as an auto mechanic and pilot working for both himself and others. His talents certainly didn’t end with aircrafts; Donald quickly found himself being the “go to” maintenance man who could fix anything.

He married his wife of 64 years, Marcia, in 1954 and they settled in Weymouth where they raised their family. Donald enjoyed working on and restoring antique cars, motor cycles, planes, etc. but his true passion was working on projects with his family of whom he was so very proud.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife Marcia (Booth) Sargent of Weymouth. He is the loving father of Brenda and Tim Adams of AZ, Debbie Sullivan of Weymouth, Maureen Cosgrove and Terry White of Bellingham, Mark Sargent of Weymouth, and Douglas and Beth Sargent of Rockland. Donald is also the cherished “Grampy” to fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Douglas, Peter, and Heather Sargent.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Donald on Tuesday May 22, 2018 from 4-8 pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:45am Wednesday morning for a Funeral Service that will begin promptly at 10am in the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Old North Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Weymouth Historical Society at 238 Park Ave Weymouth, MA 02190.
