John MacLeish Sr., age 83, a lifelong resident of Weymouth passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 5, 2018. Jack was a Shipper for Pneumatic Scales in Quincy for 42 years. Once he retired from Pneumatic Scales in 1997 he became a Bagger for Roche Brothers Supermarket for 17 years when he was told by the store that he had to retire in 2014.
John Served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the George R. Bean American Legion Post #79 in Weymouth. He was a very active Senior Advisor and Eagle Scout at Troup 2 in Weymouth, Jack also belonged to the Orphan’s Hope Masonic Lodge in Weymouth and the Old Colony Lodge of Odd Fellows in Hingham.
John was the beloved husband of the late Muriel (Norris) MacLeish and is survived by his loving family, John MacLeish Jr. and his fiancée, Phoebe Asci of Weymouth and Barbara Bickel and her husband, Darrell of Hanson, his daughter-in-law, Ashley MacLeish of Plymouth and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack was the devoted father of his two late sons, Bruce and David MacLeish and is also predeceased by his brother, James MacLeish and his sister Virginia Finlay.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for John on Thursday, January 11 from 5-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. A Funeral Service in honor of Jack’s life will be celebrated at the Old South Union Congregational Church, 25 Columbian St. S. Weymouth on Friday at 11am. Burial will follow at the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory to the Terry O. Martinson Scholarship Fund, 25 Columbia St. S. Weymouth, MA 02190.
